Skin Care Manhattan, NYIf there’s one thing you learn within the first few weeks of being a parent, it’s that although your newborn baby may seem tiny and fragile, they are more resilient than you may realize. And although you’ll want to do everything you can to ensure that your little one is healthy and safe, there are some things that you can just sit back and enjoy. To help you enjoy the little moments with your newborn, we have created a brief (and hopefully helpful) guide listing a few ways that you can baby your baby’s skin.

Sunscreen

It’s not recommended that your baby under six months wear sunscreen. But if they are over the age of six months, try looking for a sunscreen that has ingredients like titanium dioxide in them because they add a lot of protection while still being gentle. If you have a newborn baby, try keeping them out of the sun or if you do go into the sun, make sure they are covered.

Use Free and Clear

Another great way to baby your baby’s skin? Use a laundry detergent that’s free of chemicals, dyes, and scents. Although your skin may be able to handle the additives, it can sometimes cause rashes on an infants skin. Most laundry brands now carry their own version of free and clear laundry detergent. Before your baby arrives, try washing all of their clothes, sheets, and blankets in this type of detergent.

Use Calming Baby Products

Another way to take care of your baby’s skin? Use calming baby lotions and shampoos on their skin. If your baby has eczema, try using an over-the-counter baby lotion like Eucerin or Aveeno that’s designed to treat eczema.

Taking care of a baby isn’t rocket science, but it can feel like it at some points. Try using these tips to keep your baby’s skin smooth and comfortable. To learn more about dermatology or skin care tips, contact Dr. Barry Goldman’s New York office at 212.962.1115.
