Having perfectly clear, tan, and dewy skin is something that we all hope for in the summer. If, however, you have developed skin rash, then you may be wondering if it’s caused by the heat or if it’s actually an allergy.

How Can I Identify If it was an allergy?

Typically, skin allergies won’t just look prickly, but they will also exhibit other symptoms as well, such as:

  • Itchiness
  • Redness
  • Inflammation
  • Blotchiness
  • Pain

When patients have prickly heat or a heat rash, they typically experience a sudden rash after spending an extended period out in the sun. This type of rash is also usually accompanied by a sunburn as well. Although a prickly rash will be really bumpy and itchy, it should go away with your sunburn.

What Can you do about a skin allergy?

If you do have a skin allergy the trickiest part is finding out what you’re allergic to. Here at our office, we perform one of the most effective ways at identifying allergies: skin path testing. Patch testing is typically done on your back. To do this, we will mix common allergens with a substance like Vaseline, put it on your back, and then place a skin patch over it. Then, two days later you will come back into our office, and we will be able to identify what, if anything, you are allergic to.

Patch testing a thorough way for us to diagnose you with a specific skin allergy. Once you have been diagnosed, then you can begin treatment or avoid the irritant at all costs.

Does patch testing sound like something that you are interested in learning a little bit more about? If so, then contact our NYC office today and call us at 212.962.1115,
