Acne is the term for the blocked pores, pimples, and deeper lumps that can appear on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and upper arms. Not only is acne unattractive, it can also cause permanent scarring and emotional distress. Fortunately, patients can often improve mild acne by washing with warm water and a mild soap twice a day and/or using a topical over-the-counter acne medication. For severe cases, laser treatment is recommended.
We use the Palomar StarLux™ laser system to treat acne. The laser combines patented "smooth pulse technology" with continuous cooling for steady, comfortable treatment. StarLux delivers short-wavelength light to kill p. acnes bacteria and reduce visible acne, as well as longer-wavelength light that penetrates deeper into the skin to prevent future breakouts. We also offer the Zeno at-home treatment for acne.

Age spots, also called liver spots, are flat brown patches on the skin that have darkened in color ("pigmented") after exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet light. They are commonly seen in people over the age of 40 on areas of skin that are frequently exposed to sunlight, such as the hands, shoulders, forearms, face and forehead. Age spots may look unattractive, but they are painless and harmless. However, their dark color can delay the diagnosis of some skin cancers. We offer treatment with lasers, intense pulsed light (IPL), microdermabrasion and also prescription medication.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is commonly used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial wrinkles. It is injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes, forehead and mouth to smooth crow's feet, frown and worry lines, and lines on the neck. Made from a purified protein, BOTOX® injections block nerve impulses, weakening muscles to relax wrinkles and give the face a rejuvenated look. BOTOX® may also be useful for migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and eye and neck muscle spasms.

| Chemical peels remove damaged outer layers of skin on the face to smooth texture, reduce scarring, and remove blemishes and pre-cancerous growths to produce healthy, glowing skin. Peel formulas and strengths are tailored to each patient. Peels can be combined with other procedures such as facelifts for a younger look. They may be covered by insurance if they are performed for medical rather than cosmetic reasons. |
The Palomar Lux 1540 Fractional Laser handpiece delivers beams of light penetrating the skin and dermis. It creates columns of heated tissue that initiate a healing process that forms new healthy tissue. Fractional treatments (up to 5) can result in more youthful skin and less wrinkles. Acne scars are now treatable with Fractional Resurfacing. This method is far safer than traditional ablative methods with CO² lasers. Other devices don’t penetrate enough to do much good. With its built-in cooling system, most patients felt only minor discomfort during treatment.

Microdermabrasion improves mild to moderate sun damage, scarring, wrinkles and other superficial skin problems. A gentle stream of tiny particles exfoliates the outer layer of skin and provides a fresh, glowing, younger appearance. The particles comfortably buffs away the surface layer of aging or damaged skin, which is then brushed off with the microdermabrasion vacuum tool with no need for anesthesia. Only a small amount of skin is removed, so sensitive areas such as the face, chest, neck, arms and hands can be treated. Results are comparable to a light chemical peel and should be immediately visible. Microdermabrasion is often performed in conjunction with other skin renewal procedures, such as laser treatment and chemical peels. Multiple treatments are recommended for full effect.

Photofacials are a non-abrasive and non-invasive rejuvenation of your skin using the remarkable new technology of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). Photofacials can improve the signs of sun damage, rosacea and brown spots on the face, hands and body. They are also used to reduce the appearance of mild acne scars, dark circles around the eyes and fine lines around the eyes and mouth.
During a photofacial treatment, a handpiece is gently pressed to the skin and painless pulses of light are emitted. Usually 4-6 treatment sessions lasting about 20 minutes each will provide you with beautiful results.
There is no recuperation time – with a photofacial you can return to work or resume your normal activities on the same day. You will notice a gradual, natural-looking improvement in your skin with time. It is a safe solution tailor-made to your skin type and condition.

Touted as the "next generation" of facial fillers, Juvéderm™ injectable gels gently smooth wrinkles and folds around the mouth and nose and restore a youthful volume to the face. Made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body that works with collagen and elastin to provide volume and support to the skin, Juvéderm™ is especially effective on smile lines and "parentheses" (nasolabial folds) that run from the bottom of the nose to the sides of the mouth. Treatment takes only 15 minutes with immediate results and no downtime. Results typically last about 6-9 months.

Rosacea is a chronic skin disease that causes redness and swelling on the face. The scalp, neck, ears, chest, back and/or eyes may also be affected. Symptoms range from red pimples, lines and visible blood vessels to dry or burning skin and a tendency to flush easily. Many people find that the emotional effects of rosacea – such as low self-confidence and avoidance of social situations – are more difficult to handle than the physical ones. Although it can affect anyone, rosacea typically appears in light-skinned, light-haired adults aged 30-50. It is not yet known what causes rosacea and the disease is not curable, although it can be treated with topical and oral medications, laser therapy or laser surgery.

Varicose veins are swollen, dark blue or purple blood vessels that you can see and feel beneath the skin. They often look like twisted cords, and usually appear on the calves, inside of the legs, and ankles. They form when the valves inside a vein weaken and allow some blood to flow backward. The vein weakens under the additional strain and balloons outward, raising the skin surface.
Sclerotherapy is the standard treatment for varicose veins. A special sclerosing solution is injected into the diseased vein, which then collapses and is gradually absorbed by the body. By the end of the treatment program, the veins are less visible on the skin surface. Sclerotherapy usually also relieves symptoms associated with enlarged veins and prevents further complications. |

Spider veins, or telangiectasias, are small, thin, blood vessels visible beneath the skin. They appear most commonly on the face and legs and may look like a series of lines, tree branches, or a spider- or web-like shape with a dark center. It is estimated that they affect nearly half of adult women in the U.S.
New technology allows us to treat spider veins without surgery or other procedures that require an extended hospital stay and long recovery. Laser ablation takes only 20 minutes in one to two sessions. The procedure is painless and does not require anesthesia. The laser aims carefully controlled pulses of narrow-wavelength light at the damaged veins. The veins absorb the light and heat up, then collapse and close. They are then gradually re-absorbed by the body. Normal activities can be resumed immediately.

V-Beam is a Pulsed Dye Laser used to treat conditions such as redness of the face and neck, rosacea, sun/age spots, face and leg veins, freckles, scars and stretch marks, warts, psoriasis, wrinkles and brown pigmentation. Pulsed Dye Lasers deliver an intense but gentle burst of light into selectively targeted areas of the skin. The light is absorbed by specific blood vessels or melanin pigmented areas in the dermis depending on the condition being treated. Factors such as the age, color and type of lesions, as well as the location on the body, all determine whether lesions can be removed.
Stretch marks are caused by a rapid growth in the body which results in stretching the skin. The collagen and elastic fibers that hold skin together in the dermis are loosened. The recoil of the skin is lost so it stays loose and not taut. The skin has lost its ability to "bounce back." Steroids or hormones released by pregnancy or puberty can interfere with collagen formation. Weight gain and muscle building are also causes. Striae often appear on the abdomen, arms, thighs and buttocks. Topical treatments like creams usually fail because they cannot penetrate deep into the dermis of the skin where the cause of stretch marks lay. Previous laser therapy faded redness but did not address the root cause of stretch marks.
Fractional photothermolysisis is a form of photorejuvenation that involves tiny columns of energy that gently heat the deeper layers of the skin. The technology has been adapted to treat and shrink stretch marks whose genesis also lay deep in the skin. The intense heat creates tiny wounds in the affected areas. The controlled wounds heal over time, significantly decreasing the appearance of stretch marks as new, healthy skin grows. Side effects are usually minimal. Improvement occurs gradually over several treatments. The improvement continues up to 6 months after the last treatment as the skin continues to remodel itself. The Starlux 1540 non-ablative fractional laser is the only FDA approved treatment for stretch marks. Treatment is safe and effective in patients of any skin type or color. More information can be found on www.stretchmarks1.com. Fractional resurfacing also causes improvement in wrinkles and acne scars.
